News: Krokodil release debut single ‘shatter’ ahead of record store day

krokodilKrokodil’s debut single Shatter has been released just in time for record store day.

Shatter / Dead Man’s Path has been pressed onto blue vinyl, with 500 copies hand numbered by the band and featuring exclusive artwork by Krokodil guitarist, Daniel P. Carter.

The new track is a heavy concoction of break-down-beats and brutal vocals – So get ready for some serious head banging!

Listen to Shatter below:

Featuring members and previous members of Hexes, Gallows, Cry For Silence and SikTh, the band are already making huge waves in the metal scene.

This band first came about through a drunken conversation when we were all out partying one night, a LONG time ago. Playing at Download Festival last year was the point where we realised we had to stop talking about the band and start being a band. I’m stoked people are now getting to hear what we’ve been working on and to prove that we actually exist! This will be the start of something pretty special… ‡ – Dan P.Carter.

Krokodil have UK festival appearances lined up throughout the summer, including Sonisphere, Bloodstock & Alt Fest.

The band is currently in the studio, finishing their debut album, which will be released via the Spinefarm label later this year.

News: Turbogeist release new video for ‘Comatose’

TurbogeistWell well well, look who’s back again, it’s only those rowdy punk rockers called Turbogeist and this time they’ve managed to command my attention with their gritty video for new single, Comatose.

The slightly morbid video sees unconscious patients waking up from a coma, mirroring the movements of creepy crawlies and snakes as they come back to life.

With escalated riff carnage mixed in with er, lots scenes of twisted bodies and snakes, it’s certainly not one for the squeamish that’s for sure.

Watch the video for Comatose below:

Turbogeist’s 5-track EP Ancient Secrets is available now.

The band are also confirmed to play Camden Rocks on May 31. £20 early bird tickets for the festival are available to buy here:

Friday News Roundup – Fly Awards

I went to the Fly Awards last and I’m pretty knackered, so I’m going to be a little lazy with this weeks news roundup (sorry) and give you a list of last night’s winners.

Held at The Forum in Kentish Town, the ceremony was presented by We Are Scientists‘ Chris Cain and Keith Murray – where Peace, Bombay Bicycle Club, Wild Beasts and The Horrors also performed throughout the evening.

Holy Fire stars Foals were awarded with Artist Of The Year, while Arctic Monkeys took home the prize for Song of 2013 with ‘Do I Wanna Know’, Haim won Best Live Act, Thurston Moore was awarded Living Legend and The Horrors won the Outstanding Artistry Award.

“There are a lot of bands who try and look and sound like The Horrors, but tonight we appreciate how they keep dishing out the sexiness,” said Chris Cain, presenting The Horrors with their award. Holding that thought, The Horrors appeared onstage in all-black ensembles, accentuating gothic-chic at its finest. They then proceeded to perform ‘Still Life’.

Not too shabby though as Grammy voters gave the metal guru’s their second ever best metal performance award. Congrats Ozzy & Co!

Friday News Roundup – Celebrity Mugshots

This week there’s been a lot of celebrity jail talk. Whether it’s a new conviction or an appeal for an early release, these celebs just can’t stay out of trouble.

To get you in the mood, here’s some of the best and most memorable celebrity mugshots:

Celebrity mugshots

1. Ian Watkins sparks outrage as he seeks appeal of jail sentence

Ian Watkins

Former Lostprophets vocalist and convicted pedophile Ian Watkins is seeking appeal against the length of his jail sentence. The singer was jailed for 29 years after being convicted of several offences, which include an attempt to rape a baby.

Ian Watkins

Twitter reactions after hearing news of the appeal

Watkins continues to cause controversy from behind bars, as his plea for an appeal is dividing public opinion once again. Twitter user, @TorySwing, posted one of the many tweets displaying outrage about the appeal. However, there are still some twitter users, such as @joehudsonsmall, who believe that Watkins has every right to apply for a reduced jail time.

Watkins was told that he will have to serve two-thirds of the jail sentence before he can be considered for release.

2. Justin Bieber arrested after driving under the influence

Justin Bieber mugshot

Justin Bieber has left jail with a DUI, after driving under the influence of drink or drugs. The child star was pulled over after drag racing in his yellow Lamborghini.

See the moment Justin was arrested here:

Police said Bieber was red eyed and considerably under the influence, whilst caught driving irresponsibly. He was also charged with driving with an expired licence and bail was set by a judge at $2,500 (£1,500).

Bieber isn’t having much luck lately, as the arrest comes just a week after his home was raided over claims he pelted his neighbour’s house with eggs.

Friday News Roundup

Every Friday I’ll be giving you a list of the top music news stories of the week. So let’s start with some of this weeks biggest news, from OutKast Glastonbury rumours to Jared Leto’s Golden Globes triumph:

1. OutKast to play Glastonbury?

Rumour-mills have been set into overdrive this week as OutKast hinted at a Glastonbury 2014 slot. 20-years on since their debut album, (wait for it) Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, Big Boi and Andre 3000 confirmed that they’ll be playing more than 40 festivals this year and told fans to “stay tuned for dates”.

Here’s hoping the charismatic duo will announce UK dates very soon. If only to give us the excuse needed to booty grind to I like the way you move and pretending to shake around a polaroid picture to Hey Ya. Put us out of our misery and confirm the headliners Michael Eavis!

To get you in the mood for shaking that polaroid…

2. Architects preview new track Naysayer

Architect’s new track Naysayer was debuted this week on the Radio 1 rock show. Taken from the upcoming album entitled Lost Forever // Lost Together, which is set for release on the 10th March 2014, through Epitaph records.

If the new track is anything to go by then it sounds like Architects have evolved into one of the main driving forces in the British metalcore scene. Fearsome breakdowns + wickedly tainted vocals = a recipe for fucking success.

Here’s a sneak peak of the track list:

01. Gravedigger
02. Naysayer
03. Broken Cross
04. The Devil Is Near
05. Dead Man Talking
06. Red Hypergiant
07. C.A.N.C.E.R
08. Colony Collapse
09. Castles In The Air
10. Youth Is Wasted On The Young
11. The Distant Blue

3. Jared Leto wins best supporting actor at the Golden Globes

Jared Leto

30 Seconds to Mars frontman proves he has multiple talents as he’s honoured with the best supporting actor award at the Golden Globes.

The star took home the trophy for his supporting role in Dallas Buyers Club, beating the likes of Bradley Cooper and Michael Fassbender.

Jared Leto Weight Loss

The actor committed to his role as a transsexual with aids, where he admitted to losing a shocking 30-40 pounds to play the character. Leto said, “I lost up to 40 pounds and after a while I stopped counting. It changes the way you walk, the way you sit, the way you think.” Now that’s what we call some serious commitment!

Although all this talk of dieting is making me hungry…

4. Prince to guest star on New Girl

Prince on New Girl

It looks like this year is the comeback year for Prince, as the star is rumoured to play Glastonbury and will be appearing on US sitcom New Girl.

The 1999 singer approached the producers of the show, as he’s said to be a huge fan of New Girl. “He contacted us last season because he’s a huge fan,” said executive producer Brett Baer.

I’ll definitely be tuning in to this episode, oh and of course to lust after Zooey Deschanel. Which goes without saying really.

5. Morrissey to release first new album in over five years

After signing a new record deal with Universal Music, Morrissey is set to release his first new album in over five years.

I was reluctant to include Morrissey in my weekly news roundup because I just don’t like the guy. But you know what? I’m a nice gal and thought you might like to hear about the news, which Morrissey/The Smiths fans will undoubtedly be excited about.

After securing a two-album contract the fifty-four-year-old singer is set to begin recording next month in France.
